Thursday Team – Plan for 18/1/2024

The plan for 18/1/2024 is to tackle hand-weeding maintenance within the Billabong precinct.

Megan and Graeme will “supervise” given John’s absence at the dentist’s.

Last Week

Last week, we worked alongside Julie’s place in the NW corner of Furness Park. We did a great job weeding around the National Tree Day and later drain area plantings there ! A highlight was an egregious morning tea laid on by Julie and Peter. We thank them for their hospitality – but it was very difficult to get people back to work afterwards!

Conditions (last updated 07:00 18/1/2024)

Weather

Rain: There’s a 10% chance of rain this morning.
Storms/Weather warnings: Nothing that affects us.
Temperature: It should be a mild 15-20 degrees while we work.

Wind: medium strength WNW becoming W winds.
UV: >7 rising to 11 later in the day.
EPA Air Quality: Good.
Thunderstorm Asthma Forecast: None.

Risks to highlight

  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration – especially given the warmer weather.
  • Don’t forget your sun protection (especially for the next few months!).
  • Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – plenty around due to recent rain and water sitting (eg in the Billabong) – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended – especially along the main track.
  • There are stumps, branches, lumps and underground water courses etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • COVID is around again in a big way Please don’t come if you have any symptoms.
  • No bull-ants recorded in this area – but please be extra vigilant given the warmer temperatures.

Apologies: Nicky, Ruby, John Mc, John D, Nic.
