Thursday Team – Plan for 2/5/2024

The plan for this coming Thursday morning is to revisit BW-6, BW-7 and BW-36 (edge) near the Scout Hall in Blacks Walk.

Assuming we have time and resources, we thought it would be a good idea to weed the edge of BW-36 where it abuts BW-7 – once BW-6 and BW-7 are dealt with. There were several BCAC plantings there – would be nice to tidy them up and leave both sides of the path looking good.

Megan and Graeme will be supervisors for the day (I’m still in recovery mode from dental/sinus surgery).

There’s usually some parking available at the end of Garie Street or adjacent the Bowls Club.

Last Working Bee

Last week was Anzac Day – so no working bee. The week before, we had a good number turn up for weeding and trad rolling at KP-9 but many had other commitments leading to shorter working days for most.

We’ll need to get back there to deal with mulching the newly bared areas and plant into the older mulched area.

Conditions

(last updated 18:15 1/5/2024)

Rain:  There’s a 0% chance of rain.
Storms/Weather warnings: None.
Temperature: It should be a cool 6-12 degrees while we work. Extra layer to start!

Heatwave: None.

Wind: very, very mild strength ENE and NE winds.
UV:  It will be partly cloudy with UV rating of 2 when the sun gets through.
EPA Air Quality: Good.

Risks to highlight

  • These was evidence there of some “bush toiletting” in the area – since cleaned up. Not a pleasant biohazard to encounter while weeding!
  • Please bring water to maintain your hydration.
  • Mozzies are about in shaded spots and still-ish air – plenty around due to recent rain – best to have bare skin protected. We have repellent available in the PPE bag.
  • Wear appropriate clothes for the conditions – including a hat, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes.
  • Hi-vis clothes/vests are recommended even though there’s not heavy traffic at that site.
  • There are stumps, branches, lumps and bumps etc that may present trip hazards and eye-hazards under twiggy shrubs etc. We have some safety glasses in the PPE bag if you feel you need them.
  • COVID etc are still around Please don’t come if you have any COVID symptoms.
  • Bull-ant bites have been recorded in the area – please be vigilant! We’ll mark off the danger zone as part of our site prep.

Any problems – contact Megan on 0408 587 076 or Graeme on 0431 915 198
