Our second working bee for this year is to be this coming Sunday (5th June, 2016) morning in Furness Park on the north side of the bridge starting at 9AM. We’ll mostly be planting with a bit of weeding where necessary. We’d love to have some help making the most of the cooler months to give new plantings a good start.
Time: 09:00 – midday. Morning tea provided at about 10:30. Please join us for a cuppa anyway if you are unable to work with us on the day.
Location: Furness Park just north side of the bridge (see below).
Planned activities: Work will consist mostly of planting out with some weeding.
Clothing: We recommend sensible clothes for both the weather and the work – long sleeved shirts, long trousers, gloves, hats and work boots. You might also like to consider kneelers or knee pads.
Training/knowledge: None needed – experienced volunteers will be available to help in planting techniques and weed identification.
Tools: Tools are provided but you are welcome to bring your own to make ours go further or to suit your working preferences. Useful tools are hoes, weeders like “daisy diggers”, weed bins/buckets and garden gloves.
Refreshments: Although we provide both tea and coffee (and a bikkie if you work hard), you’ll need to bring your own drinking water or energy drink.
Car parking: There is limited parking available in Furness Street. Heath and Gardenia Streets are other options.
