Our October community Working Bee is planned for Sunday, 18th October 09:00-12:00 in Blacks Walk – we’ll mainly be mulching beds adjacent to the Laburnum Primary School fence.
Part of the area to be mulched was weeded by LPS Grade 4 students in late May. Now it’s time for final weeding and then mulching to suppress weed growth and also to keep the soil cooler and more moist over the coming hot months.
Time: 09:00 – midday. Morning tea: about 10:30.
Location: adjacent to the Laburnum Primary School fence:
Planned activities: Work will consist mostly of weeding and mulching to maintain a previously planted area.
Clothing: We recommend sensible clothes for both the weather and the work – long sleeved shirts, long trousers, gloves, hats and work boots. You might also like to consider kneelers or knee pads. Dust masks are needed for those handling mulch. Bringing your own water to drink and sun-screen as needed are recommended.
Training/knowledge: None needed – experienced volunteers will be available to help.
Tools: Tools are provided but you are welcome to bring your own to make ours go further or to suit your working preferences. Useful tools are wheel-barrows, mulch forks, daisy diggers (for recalcitrant weeds) and garden gloves.
Parking: Parking should be available in the car park adjacent to the school and Scout Hall or over Pakenham Street in the car park adjacent to the Blackburn Bowls Club.
If you’re unable to work with us on the day, please join us for a cuppa anyway – at about 10:30.
