Our first community working bee for 2014 was conducted on Sunday, May 25th from 09:00-12:00.
Despite the threat of bad weather predicted, a good turn-out of worker bees made fairly quick work of the planting-out needed.
Location: Kalang Park in the Malcolm Street Billabong area. This area is one of two revegetation project areas covered by the grant we won from Melbourne Water.
Activities: Work consisted mostly of planting out tube-stock – particularly grasses and wildflowers in front of the billabong (on the path side) with species of Juncus and Carex actually in the billabong and a variety of in-fill planting to the south and west of the billabong. We planted 682 plants!
Because there were many hands on deck, we took the opportunity of weeding the first overflow pond on the northern side of the path where Angled Onion weed was rife.
Thanks to all our Friends who worked with us – especially those “newbies” who haven’t helped out before. Thanks also to our friend Min who provided the freshly baked cakes to keep us going!
