A mature eucalypt came down in the park adjacent to the Scout Hall and Laburnum Primary School this morning. Unfortunately, two cars were damaged. We have had significant rainfall recently no doubt making the tree’s foliage heavy – but winds were insignificant. Luckily, several senior Whitehorse Council parks staff members were present in the park at the time so Council was able to address the problem very quickly.
The mature tree was thought to be a non-indigenous native (a variety of Blue Gum) and had previously been significantly pruned. Loss of mature trees like this highlights the need for regular new plantings in the park so there is a new generation to replace the fallen.
